Healesville Reconciliation Centre - Alterations & Extensions to a Children’s Centre

This project undertakes the merging of two existing childcare centres, one a ‘mainstream’ facility, the other a centre for specifically Indigenous children’s pro-grammes.
We undertook a comprehensive consultation and briefing process to understand the issues at hand, and deter-mine the best room size and capacity mix for both the existing and the new Children’s rooms.
The Brief was to enlarge the centre from 35 to 68 plac-es, we are delivering 71 places. This has been possible largely due to our innovative, efficient and OHS-friendly design of room storage.
The available site is very compact and challenging for the new building extension, which has helped generate some unusual and interesting spaces, each with high natural light levels and access to outdoor play areas.
